Our Saffron Rice is made by infusing saffron into high-quality aromatic white jasmine rice. Saffron has a flavor that is hard to describe, but instantly recognizable in a dish. Mount Hope Wholesale’s saffron rice is made with only four ingredients. It is jasmine white rice infused with paprika, turmeric, and the star ingredient, saffron. Paprika and turmeric are a perfect compliment to the saffron flavor and coloring in this rice. Turmeric which is bright yellow, adds an earthy flavor and Paprika a dark red-orange hue, adds a sweet, smokey flavor to the rice.
Medieval Arabs began cultivating saffron from Spain by 960 b.c. For them, the color yellow was a symbol of Joy. Throughout history adding saffron to white rice gave it this golden color that soon became a tradition for holidays. Sephardic Jews also used it for the Sabbath and it is used in Jewish tradition during Rosh Hashanah to balance out the sweetness of their meals.
